About us
When it comes to sex, we get it
Most people we see have never shared their sexual concerns with anyone before speaking to us. They often wonder if they’re the only ones struggling with their concern—and whether we have experience (and success) helping people with that concern. Take it from us: we’ve seen a lot of people struggling with every kind of sexual concern. After more than a decade of working with men and women every colour of the rainbow, there’s probably nothing we haven’t heard, and we’re here to help you feel less alone—and make quality psychology services accessible and inclusive.
We'll lighten things up
From your first step through our clinic doors, you’ll be treated with warmth and respect, with a little humour here and there—because who said sex or therapy could only be serious?! In fact, we believe in bringing playfulness, joy, and passion back into intimacy. We’re psychology geeks and teachers at heart, on the forefront of sex therapy, all with a passion for helping our patients live their best lives. Cold feet? Read our bios and get to know us, and then get in touch with us to find out how we can help.

The long version.
Before Dr. Winters became a clinical psychologist, he was a researcher. He received his PhD in psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2008; his research focused on various aspects of sex and sexuality.
During and after completing graduate school, Dr. Winters worked as a researcher with the Forensic Psychiatric Services Commission. While he could have happily pursued a very fulfilling career doing research, he realized that he wanted to help people in a much more direct way.
Dr. Winters began his clinical training at the Mood Disorders Centre of Excellence and BC Psychosis Program, two inpatient units located at the UBC hospital. As a post-doctoral fellow in clinical psychology, he worked with patients suffering from severe mental illness, including schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. His experience provided a rock solid foundation in doing assessment and treatment with very complex, difficult, and diverse cases. Dr. Winters loved the work and continues to see a handful of similar types of clients in private practice, despite sex therapy clients making up the vast majority of his current roster.
Dr. Winters received extensive and specialized training in sexual disorders and dysfunction at the BC Centre for Sexual Medicine and in the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He honed his skills working along side psychiatrists, gynecologists, general practitioners, and psychologists with a wide variety of patients with many different types of disorders and problems. Sexual disorders and problems are his specialty.
In the fall of 2018, Dr. Carolin Klein and Dr. Winters opened the West Coast Centre for Sex Therapy. Their goal was to create something more meaningful than their individual practices.
In addition to his work as a clinician in private practice, Dr. Winters taught human sexuality in the Department of Psychology at UBC for ten years, where he won teaching awards and received glowing reviews from his students.
He is a member of the Society for Sex Therapy and Research, and also is a consultant to the media and regularly sits on sexual health panels as a guest expert.

Together, I blend my training and experiential learning to offer a therapeutic experience that is both connecting and informed.
Should we have the opportunity to work together, I would join you in considering how your current challenges came to be. I would then work alongside you to explore preferred ways of being with or moving through your concerns. More about Jessica Ferriera:
Jessica is completing her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Simon Fraser University (SFU) under the mentorship of Dr. Rebecca Cobb in SFU’s Close Relationships Lab. She also completed her Bachelor’s degree (Hons.) and Master’s degree at SFU. Her dissertation research focuses on how couples’ emotional expressions and communication behaviours during sexual problem discussions affect relationship and sexual satisfaction.
Jessica completed a yearlong predoctoral residency at Vancouver Coastal Health, with rotations in the BC Centre for Vulvar Health, the Operational Stress Injury Clinic, the Transitional Pain Clinic, and the Outpatient Mental Health Clinic.
Drawing primarily from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches, she works collaboratively with clients to tailor her approach to meet clients’ unique needs.
She believes that the foundation for meaningful therapeutic change starts with building a supportive and trusting relationship. With a combination of warmth and humour, she strives to create a non-judgemental and empathic environment where clients can feel comfortable exploring themselves and developing new skills to meet their goals.
