Your vulva looks GREAT!

Many people with vulvas are self-conscious of their vulva’s appearance. In fact, surgical reduction of the labia minora (known as labiaplasty) has jumped 217% from 2012 to 2017. The internet and the accessibility of pornography has likely had an impact on how people feel about their vulvas. But just like penises, vulvas come in all shapes, sizes, and varying levels of symmetry, as this piece “The Great Wall of Vagina” by artist Jamie McCartney shows. The artist wanted to bring to light just how unique vulvas can be, and also educate others on the varying presentations of vulvas for people that: are pre- and post-pregnancy, have undergone labiaplasty, are FtM and MtF transgender, etc. The point? We should stop worrying about what our genitals look like and instead focus on all the wonderful things we can do with them.
